Discover the art of flash memoir in this six-week in-person workshop! This hands-on class transforms your life experiences into polished, concise pieces that pack an emotional punch.
Throughout this course, you:
- Analyze published flash memoir pieces (150 – 800 words) to understand effective techniques
- Create original flash memoirs (200 – 400 words) using exercises and prompts
- Participate in constructive peer workshops
- Explore literary magazines and online platforms seeking flash nonfiction
Each session builds your ability to identify the essential elements of a memory and craft them into tight, resonant prose. You learn to balance compression with clarity, ensuring every word serves the purpose of your story while maintaining authenticity and emotional truth.
Whether you’re new to memoir writing or looking to expand into shorter formats, this class provides the tools and community support to help your personal stories find their most powerful expression.

Jennifer Gallo Gaites is working on a novel and writes essays about identity and motherhood.
