Join us for this energetic, generative class delving into the captivating realm of flash fiction! Flash fiction is a very short story, typically 1,000 words or less, that packs a powerful punch in just a few paragraphs. In this playful class, we explore the art of telling complete stories with maximum impact in minimal space, focusing on bold, rich, bite-sized writing that creates compelling characters, builds tension, and delivers satisfying endings in just a few hundred words.
Each session begins with a mini-lesson featuring insights and advice from published flash fiction writers, followed by careful analysis of celebrated flash pieces to understand the unique craft elements that make these tiny stories sing. We then write our own stories using multiple guided prompts each week, creating drafts of 50 to 250 words. The final sessions focus on offering each other encouraging feedback on our work, as well as support in getting your stories published.
Whether you’re a seasoned writer looking to explore a new form or a beginner eager to dive into flash fiction, this class offers a supportive environment to experiment, take creative risks, and develop your flash fiction toolkit. Our goals include generating fresh material, building confidence, and igniting motivation to continue crafting these powerful miniature worlds.
