Fiction: From Discussion to Draft
A generative workshop for fiction writers.
What can reading a great story teach you about writing one of your own?
In this six-week generative workshop, writers spend each session putting new words on the page. Short excerpts from published novels and stories serve as a spark and a craft touchstone, but the real work happens in the writing itself. By experimenting with the choices that shape voice, character, scene, and story, writers leave each session with fresh material and a stronger handle on the craft elements of fiction. This class welcomes both new writers and experienced writers looking to generate new work.
No prior writing experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to write!
Price range: $250.00 through $275.00

Kaecey McCormick is a San Francisco Bay Area writer whose work spans poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. A former Cupertino Poet Laureate, her writing has appeared in numerous journals, including Poet Lore, Baltimore Review, and Pinch Journal, sometimes under pen names. Her work has earned numerous honors, including first-place awards from the Connecticut Poetry Prize and Dare to Dream Poetry, multiple Pushcart Prize nominations, and a Best of the Net nomination. Most recently, she won the 2026 Wolfson Press Poetry Chapbook Prize and the 2026 Atlanta Review Chapbook Prize. She has received support from the Community of Writers, Good Hart Artist Residency, and other organizations. Kaecey is the author of four poetry chapbooks and is currently working on her first novel.
