What does it actually take to break into screenwriting, and what do the people who’ve made it wish someone had told them sooner? This fall, PWN welcomes celebrated screenwriter and showrunner Robert Siegel (The Wrestler, The Founder, Pam & Tommy) for an intimate evening on the business and craft of screenwriting.
The evening includes:
- A conversation with Robert Siegel, moderated by Mark McDevitt (PWN Instructor, Hollywood Blacklist, WGA)
- A live pitching session with select participants
- An interactive Q&A covering everything you’ve ever wanted to know about screenwriting—but were afraid to ask
- Virtual networking to connect with fellow writers
Meet Our Featured Screenwriter
Robert Siegel is a New York City-based showrunner and filmmaker. He created the Emmy-nominated Hulu limited series Pam & Tommy (Lily James, Sebastian Stan, Seth Rogen) and Welcome to Chippendales (starring Kumail Nanjiani), also on Hulu. On the film side, he wrote The Wrestler, which earned Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei Academy Award nominations, as well as The Founder, starring Michael Keaton. His directorial debut, Big Fan, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. From 1996 to 2003, Siegel served as editor-in-chief of the satirical publication The Onion, where he won the 1999 Thurber Prize for American Humor and edited the number-one New York Times bestselling book Our Dumb Century. A native of Long Island, New York, he lives in Manhattan with his wife and son.

Mark McDevitt is a writer and screenwriter with the Writers Guild of America. His written work has appeared in The New York Times (Modern Love, “Best of” Anthology), The Sunday Independent, The Examiner, Giant Magazine, Body + Soul, The Iconoclast, and many others. He has written more than a dozen feature film scripts and several TV pilots and treatments. In 2007, he was a finalist for the Disney Fellowship in writing, and he is a three-time semifinalist for the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, awarded annually by AMPAS. He is passionate about biography and history and believes that inside every person is a natural-born storyteller, just waiting to be released. Together with his wife, he co-authored the book Painting With Scissors. He lives in Fair Haven, New Jersey, with his wife and two young sons. Find him at markmcdevitt.net.
